In Faridabad, Haryana, a group of thieves stole items worth Rs 9 lakh from a house, including 150 kg of women’s hair valued at Rs 7 lakh. The theft, which took place on the night of January 14-15, 2025, has left both the police and the local community in shock.
The thieves did not just take cash, but they also stole 150 kg of women's hair. The stolen hair has this much value as it is used to make wigs and hair extensions that are in huge demand in both the domestic and international markets. Alongside hair, the criminals stole Rs 2 lakh in cash.
Ranjit Mandal, the victim, runs a wig-making business. He went to the police and lodged the complaint. The hair is vital for his product as he used to take it in raw form to prepare wigs and hairpieces.
The crime occurred between 2:30 am and 3:00 am, when the thieves broke into Mandal's house. According to his statement, the thieves accessed the house by using the stairs, forced open the lock of a room, and stole the hair and cash.
The entire heist was caught on the CCTV cameras placed within the locality. The footage depicts three to four people carrying out the loot. The police have already begun their processes of suspect identification and promised to arrest the perpetrators soon.
This strange theft has captured the attention of the local community, especially because of the large amount of women’s hair involved. Hair thefts are rare, and people in the area are talking about how unusual and bizarre this crime is. It has also made people wonder about how valuable hair can be, especially in the wig industry.
