In an unprecedented move, a hundred canines received QR-coded Aadhaar cards on April 27, 2024. These IDs were distributed at key spots like Delhi’s T1 Airport and India Gate, as well as through the esteemed animal welfare group Pawfriend.in. The initiative, led by the Delhi coordinator Priya Chopra, was designed to ensure the safety and well-being of these beloved pets.

The project kicked off with the tagging of dogs near Manavi Rai’s animal shelter, a pivotal measure to prevent them from being misplaced. Manavi Rai, a staunch advocate for animal rights, shared her excitement about the tags, noting their critical role in safeguarding pets during emergencies.

Pawfriend.in, at the forefront of animal welfare, is committed to the care and protection of India’s stray animals. With a blend of creative solutions and collective community action, the NGO is on a mission to foster a more secure and caring environment for pets, aligning with its vision for a digitally inclusive and safe India for all animals.

During significant public gatherings, the vulnerability of stray dogs is particularly high. To address this, 15 dogs at the T1 Airport and another 25 at India Gate were equipped with these QR-coded IDs. These digital cards are a repository of essential information, including the details of those who feed them and emergency contact numbers, which are instrumental in reuniting lost dogs with their human families.

Priya Chopra recounted the touching story of her community dog, Browine, who went missing but was swiftly returned thanks to his QR tag from Pawfriend.in. This successful reunion is a testament to the positive impact the organization is having on the community.

Chopra expressed her appreciation for the initiative’s commencement in Delhi, highlighting the significance of united efforts to create a secure habitat for stray animals. She shared the collective elation of Delhi’s animal enthusiasts as they begin this path toward a more secure nation for their furry friends.

Akshay Ridlan, the founder of Pawfriend.in, underscored the NGO’s dedication to broadening its influence, mentioning that around 6,350 tags have been handed out nationwide. The organization has ambitious plans to increase this number tenfold within the coming year.
