A 37-year-old man from the city grabbed headlines for paying his interim alimony amount in bundles of coins. The court had ordered him to pay an interim maintenance of ₹2 lakh to his wife. So, the man appeared at the additional family court on Wednesday carrying 20 bundles of ₹1 and ₹2 coins. The video soon went viral on social media.

He is a call taxi owner and driver, who currently lives in Vadavalli. Last year, he was sued for divorce by his wife. After getting the court order to deposit the interim amount, the man came to the courtroom with coins worth ₹80,000 loaded into his car and walked into the courtroom to make the payment.

The man appeared before the judge, offering bundles of coins, but the judge was unwilling to accept them; he requested him to deposit the money in the form of notes. The same day, the man was filmed walking out of the court campus with the coin bundles.

By Thursday, the man went back to the court and deposited the amount in currency notes, as ordered. The court accepted the payment and further directed him to clear the remaining ₹1.2 lakh at the earliest.

Though the identity of the man is not known, his mode of payment has brought a lot of conversations on social media, with people wondering why he chose to pay in coins.
