An 8-month-old baby girl named Kiara Crislayne de Moura dos Santos was found alive during her burial in Correia Pinto, Brazil. She had been declared dead because of problems from a viral infection on October 19, 2024. However, during her funeral on October 21, her family was shocked when they saw signs that she was still alive.
Kiara was taken to Faustino Riscarolli Hospital because she was having trouble breathing from a viral infection. After running some tests, the doctors said she had no pulse and wasn't breathing, so they declared her dead. The family started to plan her funeral, and friends and relatives gathered to say goodbye. But during the funeral, one family member saw the baby move inside the coffin. In shock, they noticed Kiara holding a relative’s finger. The family quickly stopped the funeral and rushed her back to the hospital.
An emotional moment and hope
When Kiara was brought back to the hospital, the doctors tried to save her again, but sadly, she was declared dead for the second time, just 24 hours after the first time. Her father, Cristiano Santos, shared how heartbroken the family was. He said they had a small hope that she might survive, but then they faced sadness again when she passed away for sure.
Hospital procedures under investigation
After this sad incident, officials in Brazil began looking into how the hospital declared Kiara's death. The hospital has said sorry to her family and promised to carefully check their procedures to prevent this from happening again. Local authorities also promised to take steps to avoid similar errors in the future.
