Two friends in Australia, Harry Kooros and Jake Loiterton, 26 and fromn Sydney broke the Guinness World Record for the most bar visits in one night by visiting 99 pubs in 24 hours and sipping those many drinks to achieve this feat. Both Harry and Jake broke the previous world record of Heinrich De Villiers from South Africa who went to 78 pubs. The two altogether spend about 1500 Australian Dollars, i.e. approx. 80,000 Rs.
The main reasons to attempt for the record was to raise money for MS Australia, a non-profit organisation dedicated to multiple-sclerosis research and to revitalise Sydney’s nightlife which they say has decimated over the past decade due to legislation changes and more importantly covid. "We wanted to try to reignite the spark in a declining piece of what makes Sydney so great," Mr Kooros told GWR. \
The duo started off their advantage at midnight to take advantage of the late bar closing times and as people are not allowed to use their private vehicles/transportation when drunk, the two continues their adventure on foot. However, they felt their first setback when Harry felt the effects of consuming too much liquid in a short span of time and threw up at around 2 AM. "Luckily, after reassessing our game plan, I managed to pull it together and continue," Mr Kooros told GWR.
The friends were exhausted by 5 AM and went on to rest at a bench in a park till 9 AM after which they resumed their journey and decided not to spend more than 14 minutes going from one pub to another. The duo broke the record by early evening, but decided to carry on till they reached 100. The duo stopped due to miscounting, incorrectly thinking it was their 100th pub whereas it was actually their 99th pub.
