A massive 400-pound, 10-foot-long alligator caused quite a buzz in Onslow County, North Carolina, after it was spotted lounging near Old 30 Road. This happened on Wednesday, May 28, and quickly drew attention from both locals and authorities.

The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office, along with officers from the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, quickly responded to the scene. Working together, they managed to safely capture the huge reptile, which has since been playfully nicknamed “Pepe the Gator.”

The Sheriff’s Office later shared the incident in a lighthearted Facebook post, which quickly went viral. Many people online were amused by the situation and praised the officers for handling it safely.

According to wildlife officials, alligators can sometimes wander into residential areas, especially during warmer months when they search for food or mates. While it may be alarming to spot such a creature out of its usual habitat, experts remind people not to approach or try to feed wild animals.

Thanks to the teamwork between local deputies and wildlife experts, Pepe was safely relocated, and no injuries were reported. The incident served as a reminder of the importance of coexisting carefully with wildlife.
