Xiaomi is getting ready for the world of electric vehicles (EVs) with the release of the much awaited SU7 model. A Chinese government regulatory body recently released the SU7's initial photographs, creating anticipation for its planned public debut in the first half of 2024.

Xiaomi, a Chinese designer and manufacturer of consumer electronics, has revealed its first automobile in Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) filings in China. Xiaomi has made the strategic decision not to manage the EV's direct manufacture. Instead, this duty has been assigned to Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co. (BAIC), a well-known government-owned Chinese automobile manufacturer, but the EV will have popular 'Mi' logo.

This cooperation, which confirms prior rumors, establishes BAIC as the primary production partner for Xiaomi's entry into the competitive area of electric vehicles.

Lu Weibing, partner and president of Xiaomi Group, said that Auto has exceeded expectations. The official release, scheduled for the first half of next year, is widely awaited by both tech lovers and automobile industry analysts.

The car's back end has the trademark "Xiaomi"

The photographs of Xiaomi's future car, the SU7, were released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. This sedan, said to have coupe-like features, has a striking design with a closed grille and sharp headlamp modules at the front. The car's back end has the trademark "Xiaomi" badge at the bottom left of the tail, as well as eye-catching continuous taillights. According to the declaration information, the vehicle was filed by Beijing Automotive Group Off-road Vehicle Co., Ltd.

The SU7 will be available with two powertrain options: a rear-wheel-drive variant with a 220 kW (295 hp) motor and a top speed of 210 kmph, and a dual-motor, four-wheel-drive version with a maximum power of 495 kW (664 hp) and a top speed of 265 kmph.

According to the MIIT file, three models will be available: SU7, SU7 Pro, and SU7 Max.

The Xiaomi SU7 has a length of 4,997 mm, a width of 1,963 mm, a height of 1,455 mm, and a wheelbase of 3,000 mm, with wheel diameters varying from 19 to 20 inches. The electric vehicle weighs between 1,980 and 2,205 kg depending on the model. it will provide a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery sourced from BYD on the entry-level trim(s), while higher variations will be outfitted with a bigger CATL battery pack.

Xiaomi's entry into the automobile business is consistent with the company's overarching aim of establishing itself as a significant player across several technology disciplines. This strategic decision demonstrates dedication to pushing the frontiers of innovation and broadening its product offerings.

The IT industry is anticipating the debut of a new participant in the electric car scene as Xiaomi Auto prepares for its formal launch. With its distinct design and strategic manufacturing collaboration, the SU7 is poised to contribute to the rapidly developing EV industry.
