Tesla CEO, Elon Musk took to the X platform to share images of the new and much-awaited ‘cybertruck’ at the Gigafactory in Austin, Texas. The pick-up truck was enjoying a lot of comical popularity owing to its prototype introduction by Elon Musk back in 2019 where he asked the vehicle’s designer to throw a heavy metal object at the ‘unbreakable’ window or the armour glass of the truck, yet it broke…..twice.
Shortages in sourcing as reported by the CEO was the principal cause for its delayed production and subsequent launch now predicted in 2023.
“It’s going to be hard to make the cost affordable because it is a new car, new manufacturing method…In the grand scheme of things, relative to the production rate of all the other cars we make, it will be small. But it’s still very cool." Musk was quoted as saying by Bloomberg.
The Tesla website claims the following attributes of the truck - a durable exoskeleton with passenger protection calling it impenetrable due to superior strength design, endurance, and Ultra-Hard 30X Cold-Rolled stainless-steel structural skin to Tesla armour glass. Explaining the Ultra-Hard 30X Steel, the website says it eliminates chances of dents, damages, and long-term corrosion with a smooth monochrome exoskeleton. The armour glass is said to be improved by ultra-strong glass and polymer-layered composite which can absorb and redirect force for improved performance and damage tolerance.
The Tesla ‘CyberTruck’ has a flexible interior, lockable storage, 3500 pounds of payload capacity, onboard power, and adjustable air compressions. It has been attributed as high-performance and efficient with a powerful drivetrain and low center of gravity providing extraordinary traction control and torque- enabling acceleration control from 0-60 mph in as little as 2.9 seconds and up to 500 miles of range on the Tesla website.
Musk's announcement is a major milestone for the Cybertruck project. It has been delayed several times, but it now appears that the truck is finally on track to enter production
Major milestone:
The Cybertruck project has been delayed several times, but it now appears that the truck is finally on track to enter production.
Production to commence:
Production of the Cybertruck will soon commence, with the first deliveries to customers expected in late 2023.
Range and towing capacity:
The Cybertruck will have a range of up to 500 miles and a towing capacity of up to 14,000 pounds.
Back in April, Elon Musk said that Tesla is aiming for a big Cybertruck launch event at the tail end of the third quarter, but it seems that a September release date is very possible as promised by Musk to investors in the second quarter. At the event, Tesla is expected to announce the Cybertruck price, specs, and trim levels, as well as when will the actual deliveries start en masse.
“The Cybertruck was spotted on trailers with smashed fronts and window markings last week, while Tesla may have started asking employees if they want the dual- or tri-motor Cybertruck variants,” reported a car tech source.
Tesla makes 10 Cyber Trucks
At present, Tesla makes 10 CyberTrucks a day reportedly. However, it hasn’t been tested on GCAP protocols, and that data isn’t available to potential customers. Therefore, the world awaits the run-up price and delivery announcement event alongside the stars it has in the GCAP system of testing. However, as per Bloomberg, there shall be three configurations of the model available – a single-motor version with a range of over 250 miles at a price of $39,900, a dual-motor mode with a range of 300 miles at a price of $49,900, and lastly, a tri-motor with 500 miles mileage at a price of $69.900.
