With the Punch.ev and Nexon.ev becoming India's first electric cars to gain a 5-star safety rating from the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat-NCAP), Tata Motors has accomplished a key milestone in the electric vehicle (EV Market) category.

With the highest-ever marks for any vehicle tested by Bharat-NCAP, the Punch.ev broke the previous record. For adult occupant protection (AOP), it received 31.46 out of 32 points, while for child occupant protection (COP), it received 45 out of 49 points. Moreover, Nexon.ev did remarkably well, receiving scores of 44.95 out of 49 for COP and 29.86 out of 32 for AOP.

Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, commended Tata Motors on their accomplishment. He underlined that the certification demonstrates Bharat-NCAP's contribution to the promotion of safety standards and is in line with the Indian government's objective for safer automobiles.

The MD of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, Shailesh Chandra, took pleasure in Tata's dedication to safety. He said that regardless of price range, safety is engrained in Tata's DNA. To make driving safer for everyone in the future, Tata Motors wants to set the standard. Tata's four SUVs that underwent Bharat-NCAP testing all received 5-star ratings.

Since its introduction, Punch.ev has drawn over 10,000 happy owners. Long range, performance, cutting-edge technology, and sophisticated features have made it a popular choice for both new and EV enthusiast customers.

Tata's accomplishment highlights the progress Indian automakers have made in adopting safer and more environmentally friendly forms of mobility. Safety requirements such as Bharat-NCAP are essential for improving exportworthiness as India strives to become a global automotive industry.

Customers are more confident in Tata's EV solutions thanks to the safety ratings. Customers place a high value on safety, particularly in the emerging EV sector. When Tata establishes the standard for safety, other manufacturers might take note and EV safety could improve overall.

The crash safety rating method for automobiles in India is called the Bharat New Car Assessment Program, or Bharat NCAP. By raising the bar for vehicle safety for cars weighing up to 3.5 tons, it seeks to improve road safety. Bharat NCAP was formally introduced by Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari on August 22, 2023, and it started operating on October 1 of the same year.
