Apple to open 4 new stores in India, launches ‘Made in India iPhone 16 series’

The "Made in India" iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max could become available this month for domestic consumption as well as exports to a few selected countries around the globe.

Made in India iPhone 16 series is at the centre of Apple’s latest expansion plans in India, Apple announced on Friday that it plans to open four more retail stores in India, expanding its presence in key cities such as Pune, Bengaluru, Delhi-NCR, and Mumbai. The stores are a sequel to the successful opening of its first two Indian stores in April 2023 in Mumbai and Delhi.  The new stores are expected to open next year, according to sources.

Apple to roll out ‘Made in India’ iPhone 16 series

Apple also revealed that it will manufacture its iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models in India. The company had introduced local production of iPhones way back in 2017 and was now going to make its latest, more premium models in the country. The “Made in India” iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max could become available this month for domestic consumption as well as exports to a few selected countries around the globe.

“Manufactured in India iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will soon be available for our local customers and for export to select countries across the world,” Apple said in a statement, underscoring the company’s commitment to expanding its production capabilities in India.

Apple’s recent increased investment in India comes at a time when the country continues to grow as an important market for the tech giant. The launch of more retail stores and local manufacturing of premium devices reflect Apple’s strategy to strengthen its foothold in one of the world’s fastest-growing smartphone markets.

Now, with local production of the iPhone 16 series and more retail locations on the way, Apple is well-positioned to cater to the rising demand for its products in India, while also boosting its exports.

All about the iPhone 16 series

Apple has launched the iPhone 16 series across the world, including India, introducing significant upgrades to the standard models, which are expected to drive interest among consumers. The iPhone 16 Pro version also arrives with major improvements compared to previous models.

The basic variant of iPhone 16 will be priced at $799 or nearly Rs 67,000. The iphone 16 Plus variant will cost about $899 or nearly Rs 75,500. However, for the US market, the base variant of the iPhone 16 Pro is going to start at $999 or approximately Rs 83,870 for 128GB and at $1,199 or nearly Rs 1 lakh for 256GB of the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

The iPhone 16’s starting price will be Rs 79,900 in India, while the iPhone 16 Plus starts at Rs 89,900. The price of the iPhone 16 Pro starts at Rs 1,19,900, and then there is the top-tier iPhone 16 Pro Max for the high end at Rs 1,44,900.
