Trump demands violent police crackdown while Harris advocates for immigration reforms

The former President called his opponent "mentally impaired" during the Sunday address.

As the US presidential election is closing in, both the nominees are actively engaged in the election campaigns. Donald Trump, the Republican candidate, on Sunday urged for a “violent police crackdown” on crime in the United States during his address in Pennsylvania. On the other hand, Democrat representative Kamala Harris stretched the need for immigration reform during a rally in Nevada.

The two areas where Trump and Harris addressed the public, Pennsylvania and Nevada, are major battlegrounds in the election. However, Pennsylvania (the site of the first assassination attempt) is the most crucial state out of the seven toss-up states that are said to decide the election.

On Saturday, the former President held a similar rally in swing state Wisconsin, promoting some racial remarks highlighting that America is deteriorating because of “invasion” by violent migrants and other criminals.

Citing some incidents of high-profile robberies in daylight, Trump urged police to become “extraordinarily rough,” to which he got a loud cheer from the crowd. He further echoed that criminals have to be taught,” and this could be done “if you had one really violent day. One rough hour—and I mean real rough—the word would get out and it would end immediately,” Trump added. “The police aren’t allowed to do their job” because “the liberal left won’t let them.”

Kamala Harris’ address

In contrast, Vice President and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris addressed the “serious problems” of border security at a rally in Las Vegas. Harris focused on the economy, health care, and the need for immigration reform during her speech.

“As president, I will double the resources for the Department of Justice to go after the transnational cartels,” Harris said. Pointing to his opponent, she said, “We know Donald Trump won’t solve them. When he was president, he did nothing to fix our immigration system.”

As on Saturday in Wisconsin, Trump spent much of his speech painting a picture of a failing United States, inundated by what he said was the “massive number of savage criminal aliens that Kamala Harris has allowed to invade.” He claimed “terrorists are pouring into our country” and cited “a big prison in the Congo, in Africa,” as the source of “a lot of people” last week.

Trump has always been in the limelight for his anti-immigrant remarks since his 2016 presidential victory, but his stance is getting more extreme over time. Meanwhile, debunking Trump’s fake facts of exceeding criminal activities, the FBI reported that crime, including murder, is on the decline in the US.

The former President called his opponent “mentally impaired” during the Sunday address, repeating his Saturday remarks. “Crooked Joe Biden became mentally impaired. Sad. But lying Kamala Harris, honestly, I believe she was born that way,” Trump added as the crowd’s laugh motivated him.
