Kolkata Rape Case: Court Proceedings

The National Crime Agency further opposed the bail application of Abhijit Mondal, demanding extended custody in the Kolkata rape case. It further asked for an in-camera hearing on the case in regard to unprecedented protest activities within the court.

Mondal’s counsel argued against his continued custody in the hearing. Mondal claimed that the complaint was lodged at 9:30 AM and he responded by 10:30 AM. He further stated that the conspiracy charge against him is bailable in the court and there is no additional evidence to link him with the tampering in the Kolkata rape case.

Meanwhile, Ghosh’s lawyer defended his client, claiming that he can’t be held responsible for reporting incidents that occurred in the hospital. He said, “If something happens in the college, it is my client’s responsibility to report it, but any incident in the hospital falls under the purview of the Medical Superintendent.”

Last month, this heinous crime that happened in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital garnered nationwide outrage; since then, the Kolkata rape case has been revolving around multiple motives behind the rape and murder of the 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor. By now, three arrests have been made by the probe agency, including the arrest of former principal Sandip Ghosh, Tala Police Station officer-in-charge Abhijit Mondal, and civic volunteer Sanjay Roy.
