Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a set of tough new food safety rules for improving food safety standards across the state. This came in response to growing concerns about food contamination and health risks, with several alarming incidents reported nationwide. These new food safety rules will apply to all types of food establishments, from roadside dhabas to upscale restaurants, ensuring stricter compliance and safeguarding public health.

One important measure is the mandatory use of masks and gloves by chefs and waiters while on duty in hotels and restaurants. The government believes that this will help reduce the risk of contamination in food handling. Also, all food establishments will now be required to install CCTV cameras, which will help in keeping an eye on cleanliness, food preparation practices, and overall hygiene.

As part of this initiative, there will also be a comprehensive inspection campaign. This will involve police verification of every staff member working in food establishments, ensuring a safer environment for customers. Whether it’s a small roadside eatery or a high-end restaurant, all staff members will be subject to this verification process.

The new regulations were announced during a high-level meeting led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, following recent controversies in the food industry. One such controversy involved allegations against the previous YSR Congress government, claiming that animal fat and low-quality ingredients were used in the preparation of the famous “Tirupati Laddu,” a popular sweet associated with the Tirupati temple in Andhra Pradesh. Although this incident didn’t occur in Uttar Pradesh, it raised concerns about food safety nationwide, leading the state government to take such action.

Chief Minister Adityanath also addressed reports of highly disturbing food contamination practices, such as adding human waste to food items like juice, lentils, and bread. He condemned such actions, calling them “abhorrent and unacceptable.” The Chief Minister emphasized that anyone found guilty of such offenses would face strict legal action. His objective is to ensure that incidents like these never happen in Uttar Pradesh.
