In his interview, Sajeeb Wazed Joy stated, “I am quite certain given the circumstantial evidence; I suspect Pakistan ISI’s involvement. The attacks and protests were very coordinated, meticulously planned, and intentional efforts to keep inflaming the situation through social media. No matter what the government did to control the situation, they kept trying to worsen it.” Joy’s comments underscore the intensity of the current crisis and the strategic challenges faced by his family and party.

Joy confirmed that his 76-year-old mother would return to Bangladesh once democracy is reinstated. He noted, “It remains uncertain whether she will resume her political career or retire.” Despite her absence, Joy assured that the Sheikh Mujib family remains committed to the Awami League and the people of Bangladesh during this difficult time. He added, “Yes, it is true that I had said she wouldn’t return to Bangladesh. But a lot has changed in the last two days following continuous attacks on our leaders and party workers across the country. Now we are going to do whatever it takes to keep our people safe; we are not going to leave them alone.”

The situation in Bangladesh has deteriorated significantly following Sheikh Hasina’s resignation. Joy emphasized the importance of his mother’s return and the restoration of democratic order in the country. “Awami League is the largest and oldest political party in Bangladesh, so we cannot just walk away from our people. She will definitely return to Bangladesh once democracy is restored,” he asserted.

Role of India and the Interim Government

In his statements, Sajeeb Wazed Joy also expressed gratitude towards Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian government for their support. He urged India to play a pivotal role in shaping international opinion and applying pressure to restore democracy in Bangladesh. Joy described the Awami League as an “all-weather ally of India” and stressed the need for India to use its influence to ensure the safety of Awami League leaders in Bangladesh.

Joy further appealed to the interim government, which is led by Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus, to focus on maintaining law and order amidst the chaos. He stated, “The country is turning into a state of anarchy and becoming a second Afghanistan in the region.” This plea highlights the urgent need for effective governance and stability in Bangladesh to address the crisis.
