According to police sources, the accused stole several pieces of gold from his mother’s jewelry collection. The stolen items included a gold earring, a gold ring, and a gold chain. He then sold these items to fund the purchase of a high-end iPhone for his girlfriend, whom he was reportedly romantically involved with.

The theft occurred on August 2, between 8 am and 3 pm. The police, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Ankit Singh, began their investigation by reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity. Despite thorough analysis, no suspicious activity was detected near the complainant’s residence. The investigation then shifted focus to family members, leading to the discovery that the complainant’s son had been missing since the time of the burglary.

Delhi Teen Steals Gold: Arrest of Goldsmith and Recovery of Stolen Items

The investigation took a significant turn when the authorities arrested a 40-year-old goldsmith named Kamal Verma. He was apprehended with a gold ring and an earring that were part of the stolen items. The arrest of Verma was a crucial breakthrough in the case.

According to DCP Singh, the police conducted several raids at various locations, including Dharampura, Kakrola, and Najafgarh, but initially failed to capture the suspect. The breakthrough came when a tipoff led to the interception of the teenager near his residence around 6:15 pm. Despite attempting to evade capture, he was successfully apprehended by the police.

During the interrogation, the teenager initially denied any involvement in the theft. However, he later confessed to selling the stolen gold to two goldsmiths, including Kamal Verma. The confession revealed that the motive behind the theft was his desire to impress his girlfriend on her birthday. When his request for financial assistance from his mother was denied, he resorted to stealing from his own home.

Motive and Background of the Accused

The motive behind the theft, as revealed during the investigation, was the teenager’s desire to make a grand gesture for his girlfriend. The boy, who is a Class 9 student at a private school in Najafgarh, had been struggling with academic performance following his father’s demise. This personal tragedy had left him disinterested in his studies and affected his behavior.

Friends of the accused informed the police about his romantic involvement with a girl from the same class. It was evident that the teenager’s actions were driven by a desire to impress his girlfriend, highlighting the lengths some individuals might go to for personal relationships.

The case has garnered significant attention, and the investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to explore the full circumstances surrounding this unusual incident. The actions of the Delhi teen have raised questions about the influence of personal relationships on decision-making and the consequences of such drastic measures to impress someone.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the complexities surrounding juvenile behavior and the need for continued vigilance and support for young individuals facing personal challenges.
