Patient mistakenly killed in Delhi's GTB Hospital, Rival gangster was the intended target

The victim was identified as Riyazuddin, a labourer who lived in Sriram Nagar, Khajuri Khas, with his family.

Even the hospitals are not safe for the innocent patients. A heart-wrenching incident took place in Delhi’s GTB Hospital, where a 38-year-old patient was “mistakenly” shot dead by the attackers who intended to kill a rival gangster admitted in the same ward.

The victim was identified as Riyazuddin, a labourer who lived in Sriram Nagar, Khajuri Khas, with his family. He was admitted to the hospital on June 23 for treatment of an abdominal infection.

The incident took place on Sunday when the suspects allegedly came to ward number 24 and fired at the patient, who was receiving dressing from the nurse. CCTV footage and technical surveillance of the hospital showed four accused persons entering the hospital, Delhi Police said.

The victim’s brother Raisuddin said, that as a crowd gathered, the suspect fired more shots, closed the door of the ward from outside and fled the crime scene. Raisuddin said at the time of the firing, his elder sister Taranum, was also present in the ward.

Delhi Police has arrested two accused, identified as Faiz (20) and Farhan, from Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, respectively. According to the police, they provided a motorcycle to the four accused who committed the crime.

Police have also stated that the mastermind of the murder, Faheem alias Badshah Khan, and the 18-year-old who shot the victim are still underground.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Surendra Choudhary told PTI, “We are interrogating them (Faiz and Farhan) and will take their police remand to know about the one who shot the person (patient). Our teams are working round the clock to nab rest of the accused. They will be nabbed soon.”

“Multiple teams were formed to investigate the case and to nab the accused. Teams identified the people in the footage based on inputs. Their social media handles were also obtained, and their mobile numbers were checked. We checked the call details and some more suspects were identified,” he added.

Reacting to the incident, Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “A security review of all hospitals will be carried out and no negligence will be tolerated”.
