CBI claims ex-DGP detained Nambi Narayanan without evidence

The central figure behind this plot is S Vijayan, a former special branch officer who later retired as a Superintendent of Police (SP).

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has uncovered a shocking revelation in the infamous 1994 ISRO espionage case. According to the CBI, the case, which falsely accused ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan, was orchestrated by a senior police officer in Kerala.

The central figure behind this plot is S Vijayan, a former special branch officer who later retired as a Superintendent of Police (SP). Allegedly, Vijayan’s romantic advances were rejected by a Maldivian woman named Mariyam Rasheeda. In retaliation, he confiscated Rasheeda’s travel documents and air tickets, preventing her from leaving the country.

Vijayan’s investigation took a dark turn when he discovered Rasheeda’s connection with ISRO scientist D Shasikumaran. Subsequently, both Rasheeda and her Maldivian friend, Fauzia Hasan, were placed under surveillance by Kerala Police officers. However, the Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau (SIB) found nothing suspicious during their inquiry.

Rasheeda was later arrested for overstaying her visa under the Foreigners Act. As her custody neared its end, Vijayan allegedly submitted a false report implicating Rasheeda and Hasan under the Official Secrets Act. This led to the filing of an espionage case, which was eventually transferred to a Special Investigation Team (SIT).

Shockingly, four ISRO scientists, including Nambi Narayanan, were arrested based on fabricated charges. The CBI’s chargesheet highlights the wrongful actions taken against Narayanan and others.

In its final report, the CBI recommends prosecuting former Director Generals of Police (DGPs) R B Sreekumar and Siby Mathews, along with former SPs S Vijayan and K K Joshua, and former intelligence officer P S Jayaprakash for their roles in this alleged conspiracy.
