Michael Vaughan and Harsha Bhogle criticise RCB stars for supposedly ignoring the CSK icon

On May 18, 2024, during an IPL match at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, an incident came to light that is being discussed a lot on all the platforms of the internet. It is being speculated that former captain of the Indian cricket team Mahendra Singh Dhoni played his last match that day, although Dhoni himself has not confirmed any of this. Michael Vaughan a prominent cricket commentator, has also weighed in on the speculation, adding fuel to the fire of rumors surrounding Dhoni’s potential retirement.

But after the match is over, as has been happening for centuries as a rule, the host team first shakes hands with the guest team and only then celebrates its victory. This game is not known as The Game of Gentlemen for nothing.

Michael Vaughan Condemns RCB’s Oversight in Acknowledging Dhoni’s Presence

The entire CSK team was waiting for the RCB players in a line in which Mahendra Singh Dhoni was seen at the front, but when the RCB players started getting late in coming, Dhoni ji left the ground towards the dressing room, and in the meantime, Dhoni shook hands with whoever he saw from the RCB management and went inside.

Even after all this, the RCB team was busy celebrating on the ground. And they did not realise that you could not even respect a player who comes once in a century, whom the whole world knows as Dhoni.

On the one hand, the entire cricket world was mourning that perhaps this was Dhoni’s last match; on the other hand, the RCB team, in which big players like Indian star player Virat Kohli and South African player Faf du Plessis were present, also did not understand how to respect a legend bigger than them.

Although Virat Kohli is seen praising Dhoni a lot, when Dhoni was in front, he did not realise that first he had to shake hands, and then there was plenty of time for celebration. There is a saying in English, “Let the legend live his moment,” but when you are blinded in celebration, you forget that the player who is the reason behind your existence was not given the respect he deserved in his undeclared last match.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan has strongly condemned this action of RCB and Kohli on the television platform Cricbuzz. He said, “RCB has a huge amount of support, but they also wind up a lot of people, and I saw a lot of it tonight.

I get it (the celebration); they have never been in a position where they won the IPL.”

“If there ever was a time for a group of players to show awareness, We don’t know if that was MS Dhoni’s last game, and those players run around the ground doing handstands when all they need is to wait and meet the legend. We have to just go and shake his hands, and then we can do a few cartwheels and handstands,” the former England captain said.

“This is an iconic player. I wouldn’t want to be an RCB player tomorrow morning, thinking, ‘Wait a minute, MS Dhoni has announced retirement, and we didn’t have the decency to go and shake his hand first’,” he added.

Harsha Bhogle echoed similar sentiments, expressing disappointment at RCB’s oversight in acknowledging Dhoni’s presence amidst their jubilant celebrations. ‘It doesn’t matter. You win a World Cup final; you display your emotions, but you still shake hands with the opposition.

That handshake is symbolic of the fact that two teams are saying, ‘Now, our antagonism is over. We did not give an inch to each other. Now it’s over,’ said Bhogle.
