Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s assistant sacked due to 2007 criminal case

The Directorate of Vigilance stated a FIR against Bibhav Kumar as the grounds for his termination

Jailed Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal‘s Personal Assistant, Bibhav Kumar, has been let go of his duty. The judgment was announced by the Directorate of Vigilance Department, citing a case against Kumar in which he was charged with hindering government work.

According to a statement released by the vigilance department, Bibhav Kumar was fired as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo’s private secretary “effective immediately.” The department went on to say that after a thorough assessment of Kumar’s legal issues and a failure to follow proper protocols for his employment, the decision was made to fire him from his position.

The Directorate of Vigilance stated a FIR against Bibhav Kumar as the grounds for his termination. Mahesh Pal, who worked for the Development Authority in Noida at the time, filed the case in 2007. It was claimed that Bibhav Kumar and three others hindered the plaintiff, a public official, “from discharging his duty and abusing/threatening him”.

The FIR further stated that Bibhav Kumar and another accused in the case, Rajeev Kumar, were not arrested, but a charge sheet was presented to the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court, which is still pending.According to the vigilance agency, no background checks on Bibhav Kumar’s ongoing criminal case were conducted prior to his employment.”Despite being appointed conditionally based on the pending outcome of a criminal case against him (FIR 102/07 under IPC sections 353, 504, and 506), concerns were raised following the directives from the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) regarding appointments without prior verification of character and antecedents,” it said. The removal of Arvind Kejriwal’s personal aide was deemed “essential,” highlighting the importance of administrative action.

Bibhav Kumar was removed from his position after being questioned by the Enforcement Directorate on April 8 on the Delhi liquor policy case. According to ED officials, his statement was recorded in accordance with the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) regulations. Jasmine Shah, an AAP leader, slammed the BJP over Bibhav Kumar’s dismissal, claiming that the saffron party’s “sole aim” is to bring down the national capital’s ruling party. She also took aim at Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena.”First the Delhi CM is arrested in the fake Delhi liquor case. Now, the LG has started sacking his entire staff including his Private Secretary. There is no doubt left that BJP’s sole aim is to finish AAP Democracy is being dismantled in the national capital,” she tweeted.

Meanwhile, Delhi BJP vice president Kapil Mishra stated that Bibhav Kumar’s departure was a “necessary step,” citing three reasons for it.”First, his (Bibhav Kumar) appointment was illegitimate; second, he was under investigation in corruption cases; and third, and most crucially, he may be implicated in deleting evidence and witnesses at the request of the imprisoned Kejriwal. “His removal will help ensure a fair investigation,” Mishra told India Today.
