India will have its first bullet train by year 2026

India is on the verge of a transformative milestone with its inaugural bullet train, slated to debut in 2026, under the leadership of Union Railways and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. In a recent interview, Vaishnaw provided optimistic updates on the construction progress along the Ahmedabad-Mumbai route, highlighting significant advancements at various stations.

“We’ve made remarkable progress, completing over 290 kilometers of work, including the construction of bridges over eight rivers and significant developments at 12 stations,” Vaishnaw revealed. He stressed the swift progress at two depots, reiterating the goal of launching the first train section by 2026. The ambitious project, initiated in 2017, underwent an extensive two-and-a-half-year design phase.

Vaishnaw emphasized the project’s complexity, especially given the high-speed nature of the bullet train, requiring meticulous attention to details such as vibration management and power supply. “Managing vibrations at high speeds and ensuring efficient power supply are crucial aspects. We carefully considered factors like speed, aerodynamics, and more,” Vaishnaw elaborated. Despite challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and delays related to permissions in Maharashtra, the project is now gaining momentum, Vaishnaw assured.

The bullet train corridor features a 21-kilometer tunnel, including a notable 7-kilometer stretch underwater. At its deepest point of 56 meters, the tunnel will accommodate bullet trains cruising at speeds ranging from 300 to 320 kilometers per hour. The primary objective of the project is to establish a high-frequency mass transportation system, leveraging Japan’s Shinkansen technology, commonly known as the bullet train.

The introduction of the bullet train aims to revolutionize travel between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, offering a faster and more efficient mode of transportation. Vaishnaw’s statements underscore the significant progress achieved in India’s ambitious bullet train project.
